Sagar-Runi killing probe progress report submitted
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today submitted to the High Court a progress report on investigation into the sensational murder of journalist couple Sagor Sarowar and Meherun Runi.
Neither the court nor the investigators however disclose anything related to the probe, terming the content "confidential".
The HC also rejected the bail petitions of three suspected thieves shown arrested in a case filed in connection with the journo couple killing.
The three -- Bakul Mia, Rafiqul Islam and Kamrul Islam Arun -- were originally arrested earlier in connection with the killing of Dr Narayan Chandra Dutta Nitai, an assistant professor of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH), at his hospital quarters at Mohakhali in the capital on August 23, 2012.
The court directed Jafar Ullah, assistant superintendent of Rab and also the investigation officer of the case, to submit the progress report to the trial court which is dealing with the case on completion of the probe.
Sagar Sarowar, news editor of private TV station Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter of another channel ATN Bangla, had been killed at their rented flat in the capital's West Rajabazar on February 11 in 2012.
Their only son Mahir Sarowar Megh, then 5, was home at that time.
