RU students vacate halls
Resident students of Rajshahi University (RU) left dormitories this morning as the authorities last night directed them to vacate all halls after closing the university for an indefinite period.
To comply with the authorities order, around 30,000 students vacated all the 16 halls of the RU by 9:30am today, reports our university correspondent.
The RU authorities last night shut the university for an indefinite period and ordered the resident students to vacate halls by 8:00am today following an attack on the students by armed Chhatra League men backed by police that left more than 100 people including eight journalists injured.
On the other hand, RU teachers caught Sabuj Sarkar, a third year honours student of Finance and Banking Department, while he was vandalising windowpanes of Juberi Bhaban, a teachers' quarter, on the campus during the unrest around 2:30pm yesterday.
Later, the teachers handed over Sabuj to Motihar police, said GM Shamsur Nur, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station.
The students came under the attack yesterday as they were continuing demonstration protesting fee hikes and evening shift master's courses.
