No progress in probe into student killing

All academic activities of Rajshahi University remained suspended for a third consecutive day yesterday after Chhatra League called an indefinite strike following the murder of a fellow activist.
Police are yet to identify the people responsible for the killing of BCL leader Rustam Ali Akanda inside his dorm room in the campus on Friday.
Rustam, 22, a resident of Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall, was the hall unit joint secretary of BCL and a fourth-year student of political science department of the university.
A police source said that they are following leads at the moment.
"None was arrested and the investigation is continuing," Rezaul Islam, officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station, said yesterday.
Sohel Rana, investigation officer of the murder case, told The Daily Star that he was asked to remain tight-lipped over the developments.
Meanwhile, hundreds of BCL men yesterday staged a sit-in in front of the administrative building for an hour from 11:00 am, demanding immediate arrest of Rustam's killers.
Over 300 teachers and students of Political Science department formed a human chain in front of the university Senate Bhaban at 11:00 am,

demanding proper investigation into the case.
RU Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Mizanuddin told The Daily Star that classes will resume soon.
RU Registrar Prof Entajul Haque filed a general diary with Motihar Police Station in connection with the murder on Sunday night, he said.
Though witnesses and campus sources suggest the involvement of BCL men in the killing, police have arrested two Shibir activists in this connection.
On Sunday, law enforcers arrested the Shibir men on the basis of a murder case.
RU BCL Vice-President Mehedi Hasan filed the case with Motihar Police Station around 12:30 am on Saturday.
However, none of the two arrestees are students of the university.
In the case statement, Mehedi alleged that Shibir had threatened Rustam several times before the killing.
On Saturday, witnesses told The Daily Star that soon after the shooting of Rustam, two BCL activists were seen by his side, with one of them holding a pistol.
