Law enforcers arrested the vice-president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) unit in Rajshahi University this afternoon in connection with Sunday’s violence on the campus.

Police nabbed Delwar Hossain from Veripara area of the city around 5:00pm, reports our RU correspondent quoting GM Shamsur Nur, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motihar Police Station.

He was later shown arrested in four cases – two filed by university authority and two by police – for violence on the campus, the OC added.

Delwar's name was not mentioned in the FIR of the cases. He was later shown arrested in the four cases.

At least 100 students and seven journalists were injured on Sunday when armed BCL cadres and police attacked them, foiling their movement against fee hike and introducing evening courses.

Though pictures of several BCL leaders with guns in hand were published in national dailies, the university authorities and police claimed that “criminals of Islami Chhatra Shibir” had intruded into the demonstration, which “forced” the administration to launch the drive.
