Rony, Meshu set for return
Striker Shakhawat Hossain Rony and defender Atiqur Rahman Meshu are set for a return to the national squad, which is scheduled to start a training camp on Monday for the December 18 friendly against Japan U-21 team.
Rony, the Sheikh Jamal DC striker, was a member of the 2013 SAFF Championship squad but sat idle through the regional championship and was left out of the national team since. Meshu, on the other hand, was ruled out of the Asian Games squad following a knee injury and has missed out the two home friendlies against Sri Lanka in October.
Interim coach Saiful Bari Titu has decided to draft Rony and Meshu into the 23-memeber squad by excluding winger Yousuf Sifat and midfielder Atiqur Rahman Fahad, who were members of the squad for the Sri Lanka friendlies.
“Rony and Meshu are coming back to the squad as we are going to face a strong U-21 team of Japan, which as far as I know, is being groomed for the next World Cup in Russia,” said the former Bangladesh international.
The Japan U-21 squad is supposed to arrive here on December 16 after playing a friendly match in Thailand on December 14.
