TIB criticises UN on secret deal with Myanmar

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has criticised the signing of a secret deal between UN and Myanmar, saying that it has questioned the role of the UN.

"We demand that the memorandum of understanding, signed between Myanmar UNDP, and UNHCR be published," TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said.

Terming the MoU as contradictory to the rights of the Rohingyas, Dr Zaman said such MoU is nothing but a plan to thwart the Rohingya repatriation process and put the displaced people as burden on Bangladesh, said a press release of the TIB issued today.

The same concern has been exposed through the recent speech of UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar Yanghee Lee, he said.
