8,44,227 Rohingyas registered so far

A total of 8, 44,227 Rohingyas have undergone biometric registration till December 14, an official release said.

The registration work is being carried out in 12 makeshift camps in Ukhia and Teknaf by the Department of Immigration and Passports since September 11, the release added.

The Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP) has been given the responsibility of supervising the project, Border Guard Bangladesh is giving assistance in the process, while Tiger IT Bangladesh Limited is providing technical assistance.

Of the total Rohingyas registered, 36,373 orphans have been identified. Of them 17,395 were boys and 18,978 were girls.
