Robbers loot trawlers, abduct 5 fishermen
A gang of robbers attacked three fishing trawlers near Lalchar point of the Bay in Dhalchar area of Charfassion upazila and abducted five fishermen yesterday morning.
Abul Kalam Patwari, chairman of Dhalchar union, said a gang of 25-30 robbers in two trawlers attacked the fishing trawlers of Solaiman Majhi, Ali Majhi and Fazlu Majhi at around 7:00am yesterday and looted fishing materials worth Tk 10 lakh from the trawlers.
They also abducted Rahul Amin Majhi, Solaiman Majhi, Mostofa Majhi, Ali Azgar Majhi and Ayub Majhi. The other fishermen in the trawlers jumped into the Bay to escape attack and abduction, he said.
On information, a team from Dhalchar police camp led by ASI Bellal Hossain, raided the spot and arrested six alleged robbers. They also recovered some lethal weapons from a trawler.
The arrestees were identified as Jahangir Alam, Kamal Hossain, Taslim Uddin, Nijam Uddin, Shah Alam and Amir Ali.
Bellal said that the arrestees hailed from different villages in Lalmohan upazila and Mirjakalu area of Bhola Sadar.
We could not rescue the abducted fishermen and recover fishing materials as the other trawler of the robbers sped away long before the law enforcers reached the spot, he said.
