Road to Bajitpur river terminal in awful state
Bajitpur Ghat Road in the municipality area of the district is in an awful condition over three decades, thanks to the negligence of the authorities.
The road links between Bajitpur Ghat and the district headquarters, easing communication of thousands of people of 12 villages in Sadar upazila.
The villagers are from Pashchim Shadhupara, Puran Kuthibari, Atua, Chatiyani, Hemayetpur, Char Shanirdiar, Kismat Protappur, Thengapara, Karigarpara, Char Ghoshpur, Sakan Market, Chulkanir Haat and Hothatpara.
Locals said a river terminal was established at Bajitpur point near Padma River during the British period. It was later named Bajitpur Ghat Road after the British government introduced a link road between the terminal and Pabna town.
In 1964, the road was constructed with concrete and no repair work for the road was done since then, they said.
“The road now features a number of potholes and during the monsoon, it gets too muddy, causing immense sufferings to over 10,000 villagers, especially school going kids”, said engineer Islmail Hossain, a resident of Bajitpur village.
After sunset, it becomes very risky to use the road as no vehicles can move on the road easily in the dark of night due to its awful state, he said.
Contacted, administrator of Pabna Zila Parishad Md Saidul Haque Chunnu said they already wrote to the higher authorities to renovate the road but yet to get any response.
