Road devours part of 'nationalised' school
A portion of the building of Panchpara Government Primary School in Pirojpur Sadar upazila has been acquired for under construction Pirojpur-Nazirpur-Matibhanga road, much to the worry of teachers, students and guardians.
Nationalised in 1973, the school is housed in a four-room tin-shed building.
Three rooms are used as classrooms and the other one for school office.
The schoolhouse, already in a bad shape, now faces added problem as most part of a room has been acquired for the under construction road, said school teachers.
"After breaking of a room, we will have only two rooms for conducting six classes comprising around 200 students,” said Sonjoy Kumar Molongi, headmaster of the school.
"The schoolhouse is already unfit for use. A new house needs to be built on an urgent basis for smooth continuation of school activities," he added.
Md Abdul Latif Majumder, district primary education officer in Pirojpur, I said he has written to the higher authorities for building a new building for Pachpara Government Primary School.
Md Nurun Nabi Tarafdar, executive engineer of Roads and Highways Department, could not be contacted for comments as he did not receive his cell phone.
