Workers of a garment factory in Gazipur demonstrated on the factory premises and observed work abstention yesterday demanding overtime pay.
Workers of Hatchong BD Limited in Kaliakoir upazila said the factory authorities stopped paying them overtime allowance in July.
The workers yesterday morning demanded overtime pay for the month of July, but when the factory management refused to pay, they demonstrated on the premises and observed work abstention.
The demonstrators dispersed when police arrived at the spot, said Mohammed Zakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Gazipur Industrial Police-2.
He added that additional police have been deployed there to prevent any untoward situation.
Dulal, deputy general manger of the factory, said they have stopped paying overtime allowance following the amended labour law in 2013.
