Ringleader of forest robbers arrested
Members of Bangladesh Coastguard arrested the ringleader of 'Sejo Bahini', a forest robber gang, from a char (land emerged from riverbed) of the Shipsa River adjacent to Sundarbans in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna district early yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Rawshan Gazi alias Sona, 35, son of Abdus Samad Gazi of Soladana village in Paikgachha upazila.
Staff officer Lt Col Mozahidur Rahman of operation department of Mongla Coastguard (west zone) said they were tipped-off that some Sejo Bahini members were preparing to commit robbery in Sladana area near the Shipsa River adjacent to Sundarbans early in the morning.
A coastguard team raided the area and arrested Sejo Bahini chief Rawshan Gazi after a hot chase.
However, the other four members of the gang managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the Coastguard team.
Later as per the information given by Rawshan, the Coastguard team recovered nine pipe guns, 16 bullets and 60 chocolate bombs from the char of the river.
Rawshan along with his accomplices had been committing robberies using the trawlers of fishermen and honey collectors since long, sources said.
Away in Dakope upazila of Khulna, police arrested another forest robber and seized three firearms from his possession in Gorardoa area of the Sundarbans on Sunday.
The arrestee was identified as Siddique Munshi, 35, son of Abdus Salam of Boro Tengramari village in Patharghata upazila of Barguna.
Being tipped-off, a team of Dakope police raided the area around 2.00pm on Sunday and arrested the forest robber.
Police later recovered three guns and two bullet from his possession.
