Reverse Swing
I liked what Mushfiqur Rahim said in the end of Australia game. He seems to be intent on restoring the faith of the fans after a dismal start to 2014. They were below average in the Asia Cup and then out of sorts in the World Twenty20. That must have hurt the fans badly and it is up to the players to realise their mistakes and restore the faith, which is very important for the game to have a big following.
Like they say victory has many fathers but a defeat is orphan. This sequence of defeats will leave Bangladesh with no other option but to improve on their performances. I am sure they know that they can't go worse than this. Just two years back they were beating sides like India and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. What has gone wrong? They must look for the answers. Losing to Hong Kong in the first round and then losing all their four matches in the Super-10 stage was a testimony that the Tigers did not play to their potential. Now is the time to sit down, analyse the weak areas and work on them.
Today's performance by Bangladesh was much better than their previous games. But this time they were up against a wounded tiger, Australia. Aaron Finch and David Warner took all their anger of the previous matches on a hapless and inexperienced Bangladeshi bowling. I think Al-Amin has the potential and he needs to have more and more opportunities. I liked the way young Taskin Ahmed was given an opportunity. He looked good, has pace but needs to learn a few things, like how to gauge the weaknesses of the batsmen and at this age he can learn. It's up to him to improve with every opportunity.
Once again I was hugely disappointed by Tamim Iqbal. He has the potential to play better than this. It is up to him to ask questions himself: Why I am not performing? He must go back home and watch the videos of the matches, how he was getting out. He is Bangladesh's main batsman and they have big expectations from him.
In the end I would reiterate that Bangladesh Cricket Board needs to invest on its first class cricket, on its youth and on world class coaches. They must organise more and more tours for their team and once they start finding good players from the first class cricket, the results will improve.
