Rapist gets life, stalker jailed for six months
A rapist was sentenced to life imprisonment in Chandpur while a stalker jailed for six months in Munshiganj yesterday.
In Chadpur, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal sentenced a youth to life imprisonment for raping a teenage girl in Faridganj upazila of the district in 2011, reports our correspondent.
The convict is Md Monir Hossain, 28, son of Sona Mian of Charpoa village in the upazila. He was tried in absentia.
Judge Ramoni Ranjan Chakma also fined the convict Tk 50,000, in default he is to suffer six months more in jail.
According to the case statement, Monir intercepted the girl while she was going to a nearby house on the night of September 27, 2011. He forcibly took the girl to an orchard and raped her.
Victim's father filed a case with Faridganj Police Station the following day, accusing Monir.
After investigation, Sub-Inspector (SI) Nasir Uddin, also the investigation officer of the case, pressed charges against Monir on October 31, 2012.
Our Munshiganj correspondent adds: A mobile court sentenced a youth to six months imprisonment for stalking a college girl in Tongibari upazila of the district yesterday.
The convict is Md Aminul Islam Hridoy, son of Manirul Islam of Dulihati village in the upazila.
Locals said Hridoy used to tease the girl, a student of Tongibari BT College, on her way to and from the college.
He along with three others tried to pick up the girl while she was going to the college in the morning. As she cried for help, locals rushed to the spot, caught the youth and handed him over to the police. His three accomplices, however, managed to flee.
Police produced Hridoy before a mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tazin Sarwar. After a hearing, the court punished the youth.
