Ramna OC, another sued for extorting trader
Ramna Model Police Station chief and a sub-inspector were sued yesterday on charge of extorting Tk 2 lakh from a trader "threatening to put him in crossfire."
M Zakir Hossain filed the case against Officer-in-Charge of the police station Mashiur Rahman and Sub-inspector Jamal Hossain of New Market Police Station with a metropolitan magistrate's court.
The court ordered judicial investigation into the complaint.
In his case, Zakir alleged that the OC demanded Tk 2 lakh to him in the early hours of June 4 while he was on a three-day remand in two cases.
The complainant in the case statement also alleged that at the presence of the sub-inspector, the police officer also threatened to put him (Zakir) in crossfire unless his demand was met.
Later, his wife gave the amount to the OC the same night, said Zakir adding, “After receiving the money, the OC told me to 'take rest … you need not to be worried'.”
Zakir was released from jail on bail on June 10.
