On the first day of the country's largest public examination, students will take English exam that will begin at 11:00am at 6,791 centres inside the country and 11 overseas centres.

"Question papers have been printed and distributed under special security arrangements. The papers have already been sent to the districts and upazilas,” the minister said.

Mostafizur Rahman said despite all the security measures, there remain chances of question paper leakage under the “traditional system”.

"We are considering digital arrangements in this regard,” he added.

The terminal examinations which will be for six subjects and a total of 600 marks will end on November 30.

Since its inception in 2009, the number of examinees in primary terminal tests has been on the rise. Around 19.79 lakh school students sat for the exam in 2009. The test for madrasa students was introduced a year later.

Like the previous years, the number of female examinees is higher than that of the male ones this year.

From the schools, some 15.06 lakh girls will take the exams while the number of boys is 12.82 lakh.

The students must pass the exams for their class VI enrolment.  On the basis of the results, scholarships will be equally distributed among them under talent pool and general categories.
