BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleges that the prime minister is “pampering Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu”. Star file photo

Blaming a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) for creating anarchy in post-independence Bangladesh, BNP today said Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu should be brought to justice for that.

Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also alleged that the prime minister is “pampering Inu”.

“The Awami League general secretary echoed the desire of their party’s leaders and activists through what he said about JSD. A group of JSD had played a role in carrying out destructive activities and killings across the country after the Liberation War. I don’t want to say all leaders and activists of the party are bad… many of them are patriots,” he said.

The BNP leader further said, “But, some leaders of the party like Inu had tried to push the country towards destruction. They’re the cause of huge bloodletting. If we analyse Inu’s activities during 1972-75, we’ll find those are similar to current extremism and militancy.”

Earlier on Monday, Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam blamed JSD for creating the grounds for the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the economic backwardness of Bangladesh.

Speaking at a programme organised by Bangladesh Chhatra League at the Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University, he also said Awami League will have to repent for making a JSD leader minister.

Today, Rizvi said Inu should be tried for three reasons.

Rizvi alleged that Inu had led a group of JSD leaders and activists to carry out a sudden armed attack on the security persons of then home minister Mansur Ali’s residence in 1974 during a peaceful demonstration programme there, leaving many JSD men and some law enforcers dead.

The second reason, Rizvi said he had created chaos in the army by distributing anti-government and revolutionary leaflets that caused a dreadful incident in 1975.

“Third is the attack on the Indian High Commission here. Inu was the mastermind of it. It was a seditious act as it’s our duty to ensure the security of foreign missions here. So, he (Inu) should be brought to justice for the three reasons.”

Rizvi alleged that the Information Minister often makes indecent remarks against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to make Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina happy and hush up his past activities.
