BNP welcomes Modi’s visit
BNP today welcomed the upcoming maiden visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will be landing in Bangladesh on a two-day state trip on June 6.
In a press briefing this afternoon, BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Khan Ripon hoped that Modi’s trip will bolster ties between the people of both countries.
“We are not anti-India though BNP’s stand on the issues of border killings and Teesta water sharing reflect the common opinion of the people of Bangladesh,” he said.
Hopes are running high centering the visit of Modi. Some key instruments, including the much-awaited land boundary deal, are expected to be finalised during the Indian premier’s visit.
The visit is also expected to shed light on some key issues including the sharing of Teesta waters and some projects will be flagged off involving connectivity between the two countries.
Ripon termed Modi a farsighted man and mentioned his visit to other countries to strengthen ties between neighbouring countries.
“Modi travelled to his neighbouring countries for the stability of this region. We hope Modi will want the establishment of a democratic government for the stability and democracy of Bangladesh.”
“India does not have any special relation to any specific party or group, India’s relationship is with the people of Bangladesh,” Ripon added.
However, Ripon did not want to comment on the probability of Modi’s visit with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. “Now, we want to keep it a secret. We will let you all know when the time comes.”
