Police yet to rescue Hindu girl abducted last month
Police are yet to rescue a college girl, who was abducted allegedly by a local Chhatra League leader last month.
The victim comes from a Hindu family.
At a press conference at Manikganj Press Club on Monday, the family members alleged that Liaqat Ali, general secretary of Manikganj municipality unit BCL, along with some of his men abducted the girl on her way to private tuition at Gangadharpotty in the district on February 23.
An abduction case was filed with Manikganj Sadar police station against the BCL leader and some unidentified people, they said.
After the incident, a few ruling party men continued to press for withdrawal of the case and threatened us with dire consequences if we did not follow the order, said the victim's mother at the press conference.
The family members said they had sought intervention of two ministers in this regard.
Contacted, officer in-charge of Sadar PS Aminur Rahman said, police arrested Sabbirul Haque Sony, organising secretary of Manikganj district unit BCL and Md Sayeed, a BCL activist, in connection with the incident.
Police were raiding different areas to rescue the girl and arrest the kidnappers, said the OC.
Away in Dinajpur, a girl was rescued yesterday after two months of her abduction, reports our correspondent.
Abducted on January 11 from her residence at Polikhapur village under Birampur upazila, the girl was an SSC examinee.
However, she failed to appear in examinations because of the incident, her parents said.
Police arrested one Habibur Rahman in connection with the incident.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team of Birampur, led by Bazlur Rashid, a sub-inspector of the police station, raided a house at Birampur town and rescued the girl.
