Peaceful talks pre-condition for solution: Taranco

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Oscar Fernández Taranco has expressed optimism about a peaceful solution to the prevailing political impasse.

“I do believe that there is possibility of a peaceful solution to this current deadlock if we have a political will, if we have leadership, if we have an attitude of compromise, and, most importantly, if we are engaged in a peaceful dialogue,” the UN official said today.

He was talking to journalists emerging from a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner Rakibuddin Ahmad at the EC secretariat at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital.

Taranco for the first time addressed the press since his arrival in Bangladesh.
