Patient beaten to death in Ctg drug rehab centre
A patient has been beaten to death in a drug addict rehabilitation centre in Double Mooring area of Chittagong city, said police.
The deceased was Sujit Bonik, 37, son of Sambunath Bonik of North Amirabad Bonik Para in Lohagara upazila.
The victim's brother Sanjit Bonik filed a murder case accusing the staff of the centre Wednesday, a day after the incident.
Sanjit said his brother was admitted to “Somoy Madokasakto Niramoy Kendra” Sunday.
Sujit was supposed to be released tomorrow, police quoted Sanjit as saying.
On Tuesday, a man from the rehabilitation centre informed Sujit that his brother was sick and needed treatment in a hospital.
On arrival at the centre, the family found Sujit unconscious with severe injuries to his body. Later, he was declared dead at Holy Crescent Hospital. Police sent the body to Chittagong Medical College morgue for autopsy. The body bore injury marks on different parts including the face, head, ear, shoulder, hands and chest, the morgue sources said, adding that he was beaten and tortured before his death.
Nurul Alam, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring Police Station, said it was clear that the man was tortured to death.
In a drive to arrest the accused, police found the centre locked. All the staff and the director Jahangir Alam Joni, who runs the centre, are on the run, the OC said.
