Opposition men blast 2 crude bomb in Rajshahi
Opposition activists exploded two crude bombs when lawmen used water cannon to disperse a procession of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal in Rajshahi city this morning.
Today is the third day of the opposition-sponsored shutdown demanding cancellation of January 5 polls results and protesting killing of the party men on the elections day.
Activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, blasted a hand bomb at Laxmipur GPO in the morning and set fire to a road as part of their demonstration, said Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalia Police Station.
Another group of Shibir also blasted a bomb at Shalbagan around 7:30am, our Rajshahi correspondent quoted Ziaur as saying.
Meanwhile, police used water cannon to disperse the activists of metropolitan unit of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal at Gourhanga intersection, the OC said.
Around 100 activists brought out a procession around 7:30am.
Police tried to resist them from marching forward that triggered a bit of chase and counter-chase.
As the women activists remained adamant about not leaving the road, law enforcers were forced to use water cannon, the police official added.
None was hurt in the incidents.
