UP chairman fined Tk 15lakh for damaging hill in Ctg

Department of Environment (DoE) Chattogram region fined a union parishad chairman Tk 15 lakh damaging 14 lakh cubic feet of hill.

The fine was imposed on Mojibul Haque Chowdhury, chairman of Chambol union parishad of Bashkhali upazila after a hearing at DoE office today.

According to the inspection report of DoE, Mojibul flattened 14 lakh cubic feet of hill to feed Asroyon Project at his union without approval from DoE, DoE director Mohammee Moazzom Hossain told The Daily Star.

Mojibul has claimed that he got the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and assistant commissioner (land) of Bashkhali upazila to demarcate the area for razing and as such he can't be fined.
