3 Bangla Olympiad participants to be sent to US
With a view to promoting proficiency in Bangla among English medium school students, the ninth Bangla Olympiad will be held on February 22 in Chattogram and on February 29 in Dhaka.
The Olympiad, organised by International Hope School Bangladesh (IHSB), will pick three participants through a raffle draw and send them to the US to boost bilateral cultural relations, said Kamrul Ahsan, coordinator of the Olympiad.
He disclosed this at a press conference held at the Biswa Sahitya Kendra today.
Kamrul said the school has been organising the Olympiad since 2011, commemorating February 21 -- the International Mother Language Day.
“This time, we have featured the Olympiad in line with the ‘Mujib Borsho’ [the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman], as we have included Bangla Quiz and Impromptu Speech competitions on the country’s history for the first time,” he added.
Students wishing to participate may register till February 15 at the Bangla Olympiad website for different categories that include singing, dancing, poem recitation, drawing and essay writing.
The registration process has already begun, the organisers said.
A total of 1,600 students from 71 English medium and English version schools from across the country participated in the Olympiad in last year, IHSB Principal Roksana Zarin said.
“We expect the number of schools to be more than hundred this year,” she added.
