Dr Kamal for fair probe into Manna’s phone talks
Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain today underscored the need for a fair probe into the leaked conversations of Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna.
‘I don’t care about threats,’ he says
Stresses dialogue in prevailing political situation
"Investigation is going on regarding the conversations and let it be continued," he said.
“If anything is found in the fair probe, the law should take its own course,” Dr Kamal added while speaking at an extended meeting of the party at its Arambagh headquarters in Dhaka.
Manna is now on a 10-day remand facing sedition charge for his alleged involvement in instigating the armed forces to topple the government.
After the conversations were leaked, the Nagorik Oikya convener was first picked up by “a group of plainclothes men” and his whereabouts remained unknown for over 20 hours until he was declared arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
In response to his knowledge of the matter, the eminent jurist said he knew “nothing” and that he was “abroad at that time”. He said he came to know of the incident from the mass media.
Regarding ongoing political stalemate, Dr Kamal stressed on dialogue to solve the crisis and strengthening the democratic process.
“Dialogue is a must not only for holding of an inclusive general election but also for establishing an effective democracy and rule of law at every stage of the country and society,” he said.
“I don’t care about any threat of sedition charge as I faced it during the Pakistan regime as well as in the BNP’s previous tenure,” he told a questioner.
