Oli calls for fresh polls
Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed has urged the prime minister to hold general election afresh after cancelling Sunday’s polls.
“Since the tenure of the ninth parliament will last till January 24, it is still possible to bring a bill to cancel the tenth parliamentary election,” he said in a press briefing at his Mohakhali residence in the capital.
The BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance, in which LDP is a partner, and some other political parties boycotted the polls, terming it ‘farcical’ and ‘one-sided.’
The actual voter turnout in Sunday’s polls was very thin, said Oli, adding that the turnout was around 5-7 percent in Gopalganj, the hometown of the prime minister.
