Police arrested a driver of Nur Hossain, the prime accused in Narayanganj seven murders, from Chandina upazila of Comilla early today.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police arrested Zobaer Hossain alias Zobed, 30, from his father-in-law’s house in Belashahar area around 3:30am, Golam Morshed, officer-in-charge of Chandina Police Station, told The Daily Star Online.

Zobed was in hiding at the house for last one month, the OC said.

Nur Hossain, a Narayanganj city Awami League leader and also a councilor, along his two associates was arrested from an apartment in Kolkata on the night of June 14.

Later, they were booked under the arms act and the foreigners act for illegal trespass into Indian territory without valid travel documents and for illegal possession of a firearm.

After expiry of their eight days' remand on June 23, a court in India's West Bengal state placed them on fresh 14-day remand.

Nur Hossain fled to India after the abduction and killing of seven people including Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam.

On April 27, Nazrul, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Dhaka-Narayanganj link road. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also kidnapped from the same spot.

Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakkhya River on April 30. On the following day, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the river.
