Bangladeshi child dies of cancer in Lebanon
A Bangladeshi child, who was born in Lebanon, has died there after battling cancer for nearly one and a half years.
Two-year-old Tasmim Akhter breathed her last at Rafik Hariri Hospital in the capital Beirut around 10:30pm on Thursday (August 26).
She was the only child of Md Kawser and Shirin Akhter, hailing from Kharagpur village under Matlab upazila of Chandpur district.
Shirin Akhtar said everything was fine after her (Tasmim) birth. But at five months, she suddenly fell ill and was later diagnosed with cancer.
The parents' joy faded. Various Lebanese charities and the Bangladesh Embassy came forward when the couple asked for help to cover the costs of the expensive treatment.
Tasmim was treated at a local hospital for one and a half year. She underwent surgery several times.
On August 8, she fell ill again and was rushed to Rafik Hariri Hospital. She died after staying 17 days at the intensive care unit.
Shirin has sought the cooperation of the Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon to return home with the body of her beloved daughter.
