No readmission fee for English medium schools for 3 months
The High Court today directed the government to take steps so that English medium schools in the country not to take readmission fees from the students for next three months.
In response to a writ petition, the court issued a rule upon the government to explain why it should not be directed to form a monitoring cell to supervise the admission, readmission and session fees at English medium schools from play group to A-level.
In the rule, the court asked the government to show cause why it should not be directed to formulate a guideline about charging the fees from the school students.
The HC bench of Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Md Khurshid Alam Sarker came up with the order and rule after hearing the writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyers Md JR Khan Robin and Muntasir Abed Faruk.
The SC lawyers filed the petition on April 20 seeking HC directives to stop charging additional fees from the English medium students, Barrister Bodruddoza Badal told The Daily Star.
The school authorities took extra fees from their students arbitrarily since there is no specific guideline on charging admission, readmission and session fees.
The secretaries of education, law and home, primary and mass education secretary, director general of directorates of secondary and higher secondary education, director general of directorates of primary education and heads of 23 English medium schools in the country have been made respondents to the rules.
