Nirmalendu Goon’s bypass surgery ‘successful’

Veteran poet Nirmalendu Goon had a successful bypass surgery this afternoon, his daughter said.
Doctors at LabAid Hospital in Dhaka successfully completed the operation, Mrittika Goon told The Daily Star. The physicians took two and a half hours to perform the surgery.
Mrittika said after the operation, she had met with her father at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
The 70-year-old poet yesterday fell ill seriously and was rushed to Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital in Dhanmondi and where doctors found a blockage in his heart.
He was then transferred to LabAid hospital in the evening.
Saifur Rahman Lanin, assistant general manager (corporate communication) of the hospital, told The Daily Star that doctors have kept him in observation and they will be able to say about his health condition four hours after the operation.
Goon felt chest pains when he was in Kamrangirchar area in Dhaka yesterday.
