NHRC boss urges UN to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza
Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Mizanur Rahman today urged the UN Human Rights Council to take necessary steps to put an end to the Israeli "aggression" in Gaza which has claimed 1,857 lives.
“I request the UN Human Rights Council to take clear and specific steps by calling an emergency meeting to stop the ongoing genocide and destruction by Israeli forces in Palestine,” Mizanur said at a rally at the capital's Central Shaheed Minar.
The commission arranged the rally to protest against the Israeli aggression in Gaza around 10:30am, which was attended by around 50 members of different rights organisations.
Earlier, they brought out a procession from Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University and ended at the Shaheed Minar.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party organised a human chain in the capital to protest against Israeli atrocities.
Speaking from the human chain stretching from Jatiya Press Club to Motijheel, party’s chairman HM Ershad said western countries are playing a double-standard role in case of the human rights violations in Gaza.
“They set a definition of human rights for their own while another for the rest of the world,” he said.
