The Road to CEO
"The Road to CEO" organized by Skill Hunt set up a platform to connect the young, aspiring future leaders with some of the successful business leaders in the industry.
The event was held on April 27, at the R.C. Mojumder Auditorium, University of Dhaka. It was presided by Professor Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, Dean of Faculty of Business Studies, University of Dhaka. Syed Naved Hussein, CEO & Group Director, Beximco Limited; Ranjan De Silva, Former CEO, Agora & Apollo Hospital; Masud Khan, CEO, Crown Cement; Masum Khan, Country Business Manager, Nestle Bangladesh Ltd joined the event as Guest Speakers. The event started at 9:00 a.m. and ended at 1:00 PM.
The guest speakers shared the stories of the struggles and triumphs that got them to the top.
Syed Naved Hussein talked about how transactional leadership reduces the human mind and body to a binary receptor of rewards and punishments, which is detrimental to the growth of the individuals. On the contrary, choosing transformational leadership for his company helped him set up a ripe culture of continuously challenging the status quo and reinventing the organisational structure. "Courage, hard work and objectivity, along with the mindset to embrace change and disruption can take you places", he said at the end of his speech.
Masum Khan said that in order to climb the corporate ladder, the importance of being a team person with a high EQ is indomitable. On that note, he further said, "To be a CEO, you don't have to be a specialist confined only within your particular department. You have to be a generalist who knows his/her way around the business model of the company."
Ranjan De Silva talked about his journey from being an engineer, to a marketer, to a psychologist. He said that he is constantly searching for purpose. He said, "In order to find purpose in life, ask yourself these things: What makes you alive? What are your struggles? What are your concerns?"
Each speech was followed by a 10-minute Q & A session. The audience comprised of students, teachers, and corporate guests. The Dean commended the efforts of Skill Hunt in creating a student-centric platform for skill development and training. Skill Hunt plans on hosting more leadership sessions in the future, featuring more business leaders from a diverse pool of industries.
