Australian govt vows to unmask online trolls
Australia's government said yesterday it will introduce legislation to unmask online trolls, and hold social media giants like Facebook and Twitter responsible for identifying them. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the law would protect Australians from online abuse and harassment. "The online world should not be a wild west where bots and bigots and trolls and others can just anonymously go around and harm people and hurt people, harass them and bully them and sledge them," Morrison told reporters.
NZ politician cycles to hospital in labour, gives birth
New Zealand Member of Parliament Julie Anne Genter got on her bicycle early yesterday and headed to the hospital. She was already in labour and she gave birth an hour later. "Big news!" the Greens politician posted on her Facebook page a few hours later. "At 3.04am this morning we welcomed the newest member of our family. I genuinely wasn't planning to cycle in labour, but it did end up happening." The island nation of 5 million already has a reputation for down-to-earth politicians. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern famously took maternity leave while in office and brought her three-month old to a United Nations meeting as she was still breastfeeding.
