Woman burnt for dowry dies
A woman who was beaten and set afire by her husband for dowry died in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday after 11 days of battle.
The dead, Zarina Khatun, 21, was a hotel worker and lived in Sonaimuri, Noakhali.
Four days before the attack, on March 22, her husband Shahidullah demanded of her Tk 20,000, which she could not pay, Zarina's mother Tafura Khatun told The Daily Star.
Zarina had got 80 percent of her body burnt and was admitted to DMCH the same day.
The victim's mother said Zarina was married about three and a half years ago to Shahidullah, 50, who had his first wife and some grown-up children.
Shahidullah and his son were sued, and both of them are on the run.
