Wall collapse kills 1 in Gendaria
A man was killed when a wall collapsed on him at Gendaria in the capital on Tuesday.
Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Gendaria Police Station, identified the deceased as Abdur Rashid Sheikh, 60, of Bhitpur union in Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj.
A six-foot tall boundary-wall of building number 61/1 at Satish Sarker Road in the area suddenly fell over two passers-by around 11:40am, said BM Rashed Tapan, another pedestrian who rescued the victims after the accident.
The victims were rushed to the Mitford Hospital where the doctors declared Abdur Rashid dead.
Police picked up Haji Md Delwar Hossain, the owner of the affected house, and his son Bablu after the incident, the family members said.
Delwar's wife, complained against Venus Developers, a construction company, who are raising an apartment building on the plot number 61, adjacent to the affected house. The appalling vibrations of the piling shook the whole house for months, she added.
