Verdict on holding ACC chief's office by Ghulam July 8
The High Court yesterday fixed July 8 for delivering a verdict on a writ petition challenging the legality of holding the office of Anti-Corruption Commission chairman by Ghulam Rahman after May 1.
Ghulam has been refraining from signing any file as ACC chairman of his own, although there is no legal bar for him to sign the files till June 23 this year, as the HC has not prohibited him to do so, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
Ghulam has joined the ACC as its chief on June 24, 2009 and his four-year tenure should be calculated from the joining date, he said.
Supreme Court lawyer Mirza Al Mahmood filed the writ petition on June 9 saying that the government had appointed Ghulam on May 2, 2009 as the ACC chairman for four years, which ended on May 1 this year.
