Two out of 8 'cadres' win CCC polls
CHITTAGONG, Jan 4: The unofficial results of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections were announced here this morning.
The Returning Officer announced the polling results of 35 wards and nine reserved seats for the women.
Earlier, incumbent Mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury was declared elected unopposed. Eight ward commissioners, including three women were also elected unopposed.
Polling in Ward No 19 and Ward No 28 were postponed due to violence while polling in Ward No 19 and in two reserved seats for women could not be held due to a High Court ruling.
Of the eight identified 'cadre candidates,' two won the race. They are Mamunur Rashid Mamun, a leader of BCL Mamun group and Giasuddin, an activist of the same group. Both are listed terrorists.
BSS adds: BNP city committee member Abdul Malek, who was expelled from the party, for contesting the CCC election and former president of Bakshirhat ward BNP Hazi Mohammad Nurul Hoq have been re-elected ward commissioners in Ward No 22 and 35 respectively.
