Tuku sued for 'grabbing house of ex-minister'

11 others also accused

A case was filed against the incumbent state minister for home and 11 others with a Pabna court on charges of illegally occupying the residence of a former state minister.
Md Rob Sarkar Rauj, a nephew of former state minister for information Prof Abu Sayeed, filed the case with the Judicial Magistrate's Court-3 on Wednesday night.
The court yesterday issued an order to carry out investigation in the case.
In the case statement, Rauj mentioned the names of Shamsul Haque Tuku, the state minister for home, his brother Abdul Baten, OC of Santhia Police Station Shahid Mahamud and nine others as accused in the case.
The complainant claimed that on December 7 the accused with the help of the OC Mahamud and his force ransacked Prof Sayeed's residence.
The house, located near the police station, had been used as the political office of Prof Sayeed.
In his absence, Tuku's men illegally occupied the house around 4:00pm and hung signboards of local unit of Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League there, the statement said.
Prof Sayeed told The Daily Star, "I went to my house on December 7 for the purpose of preparing it as my election time office.
"As I started for Dhaka from there on that day, the accused went there and ransacked furniture of my house and forcibly occupied my home."
Sayeed is going to contest the next parliamentary election as an independent candidate for Pabna-1 constituency.
Contacted, OC Mahamud denied the allegation of assisting Tuku's men and said, "It was the party office of Awami League. Sayeed and his men went there and ransacked furniture of the office."
"We have been implicated in a false case," he added.
Rauj, the complainant, however, told The Daily Star, "OC Mahamud is not telling the truth. We have filed the case with the court as the OC himself is an accused in the case."
