Trucker's body exhumed for autopsy in N'ganj
Police exhumed the body of a trucker at Uttar Shimulia village in Dohar upazila of Dhaka district yesterday for autopsy as he died on May 7 at a hospital allegedly after being beaten by Hefajat activists on Dhaka-Chittagong highway on May 6.
Shiddirganj police in cooperation with a Narayanganj district magistrate exhumed the body of Sheikh Salahuddin, 38, of Shimulia village in Dohar and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue.
Abdul Matin, officer-in-charge of Siddirganj Police Station, said wife of Salahuddin filed a case with the police station on May 14.
According to her case statement, Salahuddin was coming to Dhaka from Chittagong along with his truck in the morning on May 6.
The activists of the Islamist group Hefajat-e Islam vandalised his truck and hit him with a bamboo stick in the head at Madani Nagar Kuwait Plaza on the highway.
Salahuddin died at a Dhanmondi hospital on May 7 and the body was buried without autopsy.
The OC said the body was exhumed with the order of a court.
