Transport workers threaten strike in Rajshahi division

Transport workers yesterday threatened an indefinite strike in Rajshahi division from July 1 if their 10-pont demand was not met by June 30.
Kamal Hossain Robi, secretary of the regional committee of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation, said this at a press conference held at Bogra Press Club yesterday.
The demands of the transport workers include immediate issuance of appointment letters to the transport workers, enhancement of monthly salary issuance driving licence on easy terms, ban on plying of Nasimon,
Karimon on highways, removal of roadside markets, and an end to harassment in the name of police checking on the roads and highways.
Accusing the authorities concerned of harassing the truckers at different bridges in the name of checking, Kamal demanded immediate steps to stop illegal toll collection on Singra, Dinajpur and Mohananda bridges.
If the demands were not met within the deadline, the transport workers will go an indefinite strike in eight districts of the division, said the leaders of the federation at the conference.
Among others, president of Motor Owners' Samity Abdul Latif, Organising Secretary of the Samity Abdul Hamid Mitul, were present at the press conference.
