Transport owners urge PM to end extortion
The transport owners in Narayanganj yesterday demanded that extortion on Dhaka-Narayanganj link road be stopped.
They also submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through the deputy commissioner for necessary steps in this regard.
Nasib Paribahan runs 24 buses on the road from Narayanganj central bus terminal to Shimrail in Shiddirganj.
In the memorandum, 17 owners of the paribahan alleged that Ehasanul Hasan alias Nipu, former leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and brother-in-law of Shamim Osman, were involved in extorting Tk 10,000 every day from them after the current government assumed power in 2009. The issue was raised to the then DC in written in vain.
However, Nipu said they were not involved in any kind of extortion.
