Train journey becomes hazardous in Khulna-Rajbari route
KUSHTIA, Dec 31: Train passengers in Khulna-Rajbari route have been facing immense sufferings due to irregular service and other problems, reports UNB.
The number of trains in this section is inadequate and cannot cope with the rush of passengers. The trains also lack enough compartments creating great inconvenience to the passengers. Sick people, women and children are the worst sufferers.
Shortage of compartments in the trains compels the passengers to travel in luggage vans or on rooftop and standing on two sides of the engine at great risk to their life.
Moreover, the increasing number of ticket-less passengers in absence of checking in this route has been causing misery to the ticket holders.
Beggars, hawkers, extortionists and smugglers multiply the suffering of the passengers.
Train compartments are not kept clean and latrines remain dirty in absence of water supply, which spread bad odour causing health hazards to the passengers.
Waiting rooms in most of the stations have no sitting arrangements for the first and second class passengers. Condition of the waiting rooms in all the stations is also pitiable and these remain under lock and key most of the time.
The booking counters start functioning just before the arrival of the train and for want of time many passengers fail to purchase tickets causing loss to Bangladesh Railways.
It is alleged that booking counters at all stations in the route charge increased fare from the passengers. Sometimes, they sell unlimited number of tickets overcrowding the compartments.
Besides, smugglers occupy most areas of the compartment with their smuggled goods transported through train to different parts of the country, thus creating accommodation problem for the passengers.
