Traffic divn seeks more manpower

The traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has asked for additional manpower to deal with the traffic congestion on the city roads, according to official sources.

The division which has about 1800 people at its disposal wants 400 more, the sources said.

"Without additional manpower, the chaotic condition on the roads cannot be controlled," one source said. In some city areas shop owners and business people are deploying their men to ease the traffic congestion, he added.

The ongoing drive against unlicensed rickshaws and vehicles is not enough for maintaining order on the city roads, sources said, advocating for the additional manpower for the traffic division.
