Townspeople in Pabna suffer for water logging
Massive water logging following a heavy downpour in Pabna district town yesterday caused immense sufferings to the townspeople.
Most of the roads went under water in the first shower of the season that lasted for about half an hour, reports our correspondent.
While visiting different areas of the town, this correspondent found that Abdul Hamid Road, the busiest of the district headquarters, Pabna College Road, Newmarket area, Dilalpur Road, Kalachandpara, Boro Bazar area, Beltola Road, Shalgaria and several other places went under knee dip water.
“Most of the drains are filled with waste materials. That's why the rain water can not get away causing this water logging,” municipal inspector Md. Nurul Alam Biswas Lintu said.
Around 25 workers have been engaged in the municipality area to remove the water logging, Lintu said.
However, residents of the municipality blamed poor management and lack of cleaning drains for the water logging.
Lightning
Meanwhile, lightning killed a woman and her son at Koiladiar village in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj yesterday morning, reports our correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Shawkat Ara Begum, 35, wife of Ruhul Amin, and her son Milon, 10, of the village under Shyampur union.
Golam Mostafa, member of ward 1 of the UP, and locals said a thunderbolt struck the duo during rain when they were taking breakfast on the veranda of their house at about 8:30am, killing them on the spot.
In Lalmonirhat, a farmer was killed by lightning at Dampara village under Doikhowa union in Hatibandha upazila around 8.30 pm on Monday.
The farmer, identified as Shamsul Haque, 34, son of Zofir Uddin of the village at that time was returning home from a local market, reports our correspondent.
