Tigers seal historic win in Zimbabwe

Bangladesh sealed a 143-run win over Zimbabwe in the second Test match at Harare Sports Club Monday as they defeated the hosts for the first time in the country, levelling the two-match series 1-1.

While the day remained a show time for the visitors who lost the first Test miserably, ace Zimbabwe batsman Hamilton Masakadza appeared the lone fighter, scoring 111 runs to the hosts’ innings that did not see any other major contribution.

He remained unbeaten to see the match slip out off their control, with all the 10 wickets falling for 257 runs while the target was 401.

Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, who secured the spot of man of the match with his 60 and 93 runs in the second test, dedicated the win to the victims of the Savar building collapse. Mushfiq and his counterpart Brendan Taylor held the trophy together.

With 12 wickets in the series, Bangladesh pacer Robiul Islam became man of the series.

On Monday, the last day of the second Test, Bangladeshi bowlers tightened their grips removing six Zimbabwean wickets in quick succession.

Occasional spinner Mohammad Ashraful trapped Masakadza leg before when he was at 24.

Off spinner Shohag Gazi sent Elton Chigumbura back to the pavilion. Chigumbura managed to score 2 before being caught by Robiul Islam at mid-wicket.

Keegan Meth became leg before off a Robiul delivery after scoring 4 runs.

Malcom Waller scored 15 before Ziaur Rahman bowled him.

Earlier on Sunday, all-rounder Shakib struck early for Tigers by breaking the opening partnership of Vusi Sibanda and RW Chakabva. Shakib had Sibanda caught behind for 32 and clean bowled Chakabva who had stroked his way to 22.

Zimbabwe ended the fourth day with 138 runs on the board for the loss of 4 wickets.

On Sunday, the Tigers declared their second innings on 291 for 9, giving Zimbabwe a target of 401 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim scored half centuries in both innings of the Test, while Mominul chipped in with 29.

Shingi Masakadza picked up 4 wickets with his elder brother Hamilton Masakadza collecting 3. Kyle Jarvis and Graeme Cremer shared 2 wickets between them.

Hosts Zimbabwe were all out for 282 on Saturday in their first innings, conceding a deficit of 109 runs.

Bangladeshi pacer Robiul Islam took a five-for, while Sohag Gazi and Shakib Al Hasan shared the other five.

Bangladesh finished with 391 runs in their fist innings on Friday.

Hosts Zimbabwe won the toss and sent Bangladesh to bat on the first day of the second and final Test on Thursday.

Bangladesh made four changes in their squad from the first Test, picking Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, Sajidul Islam and Ziaur Rahman in the places of Mahmudullah Riyad, Nafees Shahriar, Enamul Haque jnr and Rubel Hossain.

Ziaur is making his debut, while Sajidul is playing only his third Test.

Hosts Zimbabwe made one change is their squad as well, replacing the injured Timycen Maruma with Regis Chakabva.
