Grameenphone's majority shareholder Telenor yesterday launched a global competition for young people in Bangladesh to create positive social change through innovative ideas.
The competition, Telenor Youth Summit 2013, is a tremendous opportunity for the youth who would like to get exposure on a global platform to showcase their innovative ideas and leadership skills, said Quazi Mohammed Shahed, chief human resources officer of GP.
Through the summit, Telenor aims to engage the power of the youth in a challenge to find ways to bring about positive social changes using mobile technology, he said.
The grand finale is set to take place in Oslo in December, where winners might present their ideas in the presence of the Nobel Prize winners of 2013.
GP created the platform for the youths in Bangladesh, one of 16 participating Telenor markets.
GP announced the launch of the competition in Bangladesh at a press conference held at Sonargaon Hotel.
Young people may submit their ideas on Facebook and the champion team will participate in the summit in Oslo from December 9-11, Shahed said.
The team will also get a chance to attend different workshops and seminars during the Nobel prize ceremony, which will be hosted as parallel events, he said.
The competition is open to students aged from 18 to 25 years who nurture the passion and aspiration to bring about changes in the society, he said, adding that the participants have to apply as a team of two.
The summit is Telenor Group's flagship project which harnesses education and development for the youth.
It intends to be a platform for talented youths to display their dynamic ideas and how they want to make social changes for better future, Shahed said.
The last date of submitting ideas is September 7 and the Bangladesh competition will be held on September 21.
