Sylhet dist BCL chief sued over clash
A case has been filed against around 31 BCL activists, including acting president of BCL Sylhet district unit Hiron Mahmud Nipu, for attacking their rival faction at Government MC College in Tilagar area of Sylhet on Sunday.
Activist Rubel Ahmed of a BCL faction led by Babla Das filed the case with Shahporan Police Station on Tuesday night against 11 identified and around 20 unidentified activists.
In the case, Rubel said five of his group activists were injured when Hiron and his group suddenly attacked them with rods and sticks on the college campus on Sunday. They also fired several blank shots and blasted crackers. The injured were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to Shahporan police officials, ten activists, five from each group, were injured in an hour-long clash on the campus area over organising a fair to celebrate Pahela Boishakh.
BCL factions have been fighting for long over establishing supremacy on the college campus and in the area, the police said. While many locals alleged that they often clash for extortion and grabbing land in the area.
