Sust recruits teacher 'violating rules'
Defying regulations, the authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) has appointed a lecturer to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department under political influence.
The appointment has created widespread discontent among students, teachers and staff of the university.
According to inside sources, Sust Vice-Chancellor (on additional duty) Prof Elias Uddin Bishwas appointed Md Mustafa Kamal Masud in the 178th syndicate meeting on April 13.
The syndicate in its 177th meeting, however, refused to appoint Masud for his disqualification.
Masud had only GPA 3.75 in SSC and GPA 3.90 in HSC.
According to the teacher appointment resolution (resolution no 174.08) passed in the 174th syndicate meeting, an applicant for the post must have at least GPA 4.0 in both SSC and HSC examinations.
Masud was a thesis student of Prof Md Younus, convener of a fraction of pro-AL teachers' platform and also an influential member of the Sust selection board, said sources in the Sust administration.
Sust VC Prof Elias, however, denied the allegation of flouting the recruitment rules.
Everything was done according to the regulations, he claimed.
Contacted, three influential selection board members -- Prof Younus, Prof Saiful Islam and Prof Kabir -- refused to make any comment on the matter.
