Sust journos continue token hunger strike
Journalists of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) yesterday continued their 3-hour token hunger strike demanding withdrawal of the decision to suspend the Prothom Alo university correspondent over a corruption report.
They also demanded terminating the probe body that was formed after the report was published.
The university administration suspended Misbah Uddin, a fourth year student of computer science and engineering department, on April 22, the same day that his report regarding corruption at Sust was published in the Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
The journalists have been observing token hunger strikes from 2:00pm to 5:00pm every working day from April 23 to press home their demands.
Sust Vice-Chancellor (additional charge) Prof Elias Uddin yesterday said some teachers pressurised him to suspend Misbah and they are still pressurising him to stick to the decision.
“But I am hopeful that the decision will be withdrawn,” he added.
Different organisations of the university, including Samaj Tantrik Chhatra Front, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, 8 factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Blogger and Online Network Activists, expressed solidarity with the journalists' demands.
