Students block Ctg-Cox's Bazar highway
Students of a private university in Chittagong blockaded Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway in Chandanaish upazila yesterday, protesting misbehaviour of a police officer following a road accident.
Several hundred students of the Chandanaish Campus of BGC Trust University put the barricade on the highway before their campus from 10:30am to 11:00am, said Chandanaish Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Khaled Hossain.
Earlier in the morning, at least six students were injured as a public bus hit a student bus of the university at Kharana in Patiya upazila, he said.
Authorities of the university and its students claimed that Patiya Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kutub Uddin and his team charged baton on the students and chased them without any reason when they were waiting for another university bus after the accident.
Salahuddin Shaharier, assistant registrar of the university, said, “We will submit a written complaint in this regard to assistant superintendent of police of Patiya circle.”
Denying the allegation, OC Md Mafiz said they only forced the students to get on vehicles and leave the spot as they were agitating and attempted to torch public transports in the area.
